As #BlackLivesMatter protests continue around the world, Twitter saw a record-breaking week with 677,000 downloads worldwide. The platform is an easy way for protesters to find out information about the movement, literally at their fingertips.

It’s not just looking up for Twitter. TikTok parent company, ByteDance Ltd, generated more than $3 billion net profit last year. This comes as no surprise – anyone that has been on the platform knows just how addictive it is.

Insights:

  • App store consumer spending was on the rise in 2019 with $120 billion spent on apps. This figure is up 2.1x from 2016.
  • Kids ages 4 to 15 now spend an average of 85 minutes per day watching YouTube videos, compared to 80 minutes on Tik Tok.
  • According to research, Roku, commands 44 percent of viewing time. This is more than double its competitor Amazon Fire TV.
  • In the UK, 43% of respondents indicated they will change their public transport usage in a post COVID-19 world.
