Digital payment provider partners with media agency to enhance brand’s digital presence

Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) recently appointed OMD Hong Kong to take on their media strategy, planning and buying responsibilities. They have since worked together on the campaigns such as the Octopus App for Business promotion program which enables small retail merchants and taxi drivers to accept payment from customers using Octopus card and QR code.

As the first and most extensively used contactless payment system in Hong Kong, Octopus provides consumers with a simple, convenient, and secure electronic payment method. Since its launch in 1997, Octopus are used at 36,000 retail outlets in the market, spanning businesses including public transport, parking, retail, self-help services, schools and leisure facilities, and access control for residential and commercial buildings. Octopus’ application has been extended to online and mobile payment arenas.

“We require a media partner with strong digital capabilities in order to take our brand to the next level and deliver real business growth,” says Rita Li, Sales and Marketing Director at OCL. “OMD is presenting innovative ideas for the Octopus brand, rooted in strong insights and has proven digital expertise and a long-term strategic vision for our brand. We have seen the success of the Octopus App for Business campaign and are excited for future projects as we embark on this partnership with OMD.”

Gary Wong, Managing Director of OMD Hong Kong, adds: “We are delighted to partner with one of Hong Kong’s most ubiquitous brands, as it continues to innovate and uncover new ways to add utility to consumers’ lives. We are honored to be part of its continued growth journey and look forward to delivering innovative communications solutions that match the brand’s ongoing story.”
