TikTok sues U.S. government over potential ban: TikTok is suing the U.S. government in order to prevent a ban that could be imposed if its parent company, ByteDance, fails to sell within a year. The lawsuit, filed last Tuesday, asserts that the proposed law violates constitutional rights.

Google IO reveals further AI announcements: Google demoed their aspirational AI agent, or artificial intelligence-powered assistant, Project Astra, at their annual developer conference this week. Additionally, they unveiled how AI Overviews will power Google Search to pull the best answers to complex questions, and their text-to-video generator, Veo, will compete against OpenAI’s Sora.

Snap measures carbon emissions of digital ads: In partnership with Scope3, Snap has launched a program aimed at improving its environmental impact by helping advertisers understand carbon footprints of their Snap ads.

Instagram expands access to creator marketplace: The platform is expanding access to its creator marketplace in ten more regions, where brands will now have access to their creator collaboration database. Countries in the expansion include: South Korea, Germany,  Netherlands, France, Spain, Israel, Turkey, Mexico, Argentina, Indonesia.

TikTok adds watermark technology to AI-generated content: Last month, several major technology companies introduced measures to combat AI misinformation and deepfakes. Snap revealed plans to watermark AI-generated images, while OpenAI announced that images produced by DALL-E 3 will now include metadata watermarks. Google introduced SynthID, a tool designed to watermark AI images. Additionally, YouTube has started imposing penalties on users who fail to label digitally altered content.
