OMD FWD – 23rd August 2019 ?

⚠️WARNING DATA BREACH⚠️There has been a lot of news surrounding the increased concerns behind tech platforms’ use of data. The recent Netflix documentary ‘The Great Hack’ is bringing this into the spotlight even more.

As a response to the increasing scrutiny, tech platforms have been making moves to put the power back into the hands of the users and creators. Facebook have finally allowed users to turn off data gathering from outside websites and apps. Meanwhile, YouTube changed their copyright enforcement policies around music, meaning creators no longer have to claim music rights for their videos.

Bad news for the music industry and data miners, but power to the people!

OMD FWD w/c 13th August

Hello and welcome to your weekly FWD.

The era of handheld entertainment, communication, connection and everything in-between continues to grow. Whilst devices are pushing out traditional paper-based methods (the last physical Yellow Pages was delivered in London last week) the app industry is going from strength to strength. Fornite has just launched on Android for Samsung phones, whilst Facebook is building its own AR games to use over Messenger video chat.

As more and more attention turns to fake news and what falls between the lines of free speech and defamation, this week Twitter grapples with defining ‘dehumanising speech’ and what this means for the deletion of such tweets and accounts. InfoWars weighs in on the debate with more than a dozen of their tweets being red-flagged for violating Twitter’s rules. 280 characters can hold more than we thought – short but rarely sweet.

OMD FWD w/c 16th July

Hello and welcome to your weekly FWD.

With France crowned the winners of the FIFA World Cup after a nail biting tournament, we turn our attention from the pitch back to business. For Omnicom this means the launch of Omni – our marketing and insights platform. “Until now, the idea of mass personalisation was more of an aspiration than a reality – Omni changes that. This is precision marketing at scale and in action. And the new platform can be leveraged by all Omnicom clients across multiple disciplines.”

AI is also hot on everyone’s lips, as new research reveals that personal touch trumps AI in the workplace. Apparently, the majority of us would rather talk to a real person over a machine when it comes to workplace issues. If you’re looking to win a complex first-person multiplayer video game however – AI might be your ticket – and with children as young as one interacting with voice activation, it’s easy to see why we’re so taken with this tech.

OMD FWD w/c 18th June

Hello and welcome to your weekly FWD.

Square eyes, sore thumbs, general FOMO… is your time well spent? Social media platforms are contradicting the behaviour that inherently comes with their programs by monitoring how much time you wile away online. In the interest of saving time, Instagram now adds shopping capabilities to stories whilst Snapchat adds ‘another dimension’ of measurement through marketing mix modelling. Oh snap.

Whilst you jealously watch revellers on the French Riviera at Cannes, do so in the knowledge that hot nights = loads more shopping. Restless sleepers will turn to the internet to soothe themselves back to a restful state with the promise of a shiny delivery in the morning. Festival-goers (and anyone for that matter) can also rest easy by knowing that any emergency calls made will automatically share your iPhone location with iOS12. Time to get that update.

Last but far from least, check out the great work that OMD is doing at Cannes Lions 2018 with our purpose-built site – bringing you live feeds, blogs, thought leadership and the ‘best of’ in one hot spot. Get in on the action and join the conversation – #OMDCANNES

OMD FWD w/c 14th May

Hello and welcome to your weekly FWD.

This week you can drop it like it’s… a bitcoin, as the likes of Snoop Dogg gather for Blockchain Week to discuss crypto and the future of digital payments. Facebook’s jumping on the bandwagon with their own cryptocurrency, where you’ll be one click away from buying that celeb-status product straight from an ad that you really don’t need. Just don’t Google it – the Silicon Valley giant isn’t totally on board.

As you start to hit your ‘new’ button on Outlook, do so with the optimism that soon enough programs like Gmail could write your emails for you using AI to ‘smart compose’ messages. Let’s just hope auto-correct is on the ball with this one.

OMD FWD w/c 24th April

Hello and welcome to your weekly FWD.

While we all wait with baited breath on the naming convention of Britain’s Royal baby number three (it is supposedly neck and neck between Arthur and Edward), why not take your mind off it by catching up on the digital news we have showcased in this week’s FWD.

For those of you who are in the Android camp then you will be pleased to know Google is launching a new messaging service which will rival that of SMS, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Exciting news in the advertising world as you can now buy products directly from Snapchat lenses and, love them or hate them, Facebook is testing more pre-roll placement ads, good timing for Facebook as ad viewability levels have hit their highest level since records began.

Talking of social media, OMD has been working with Theirworld + Dynamo (the magician) to support the #youpromised mission to ensure that there will be no lost generation of children as a result of the Syrian crisis by holding Global leaders to the promise they made two years ago.

OMD FWD w/c 2nd April

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of FWD. This week, Facebook unveiled new privacy tools that let you delete social network data for good through a new section called Access Your Information. Spotify went public on the stock exchange, however the company isn’t raising any money and Snapchat launched a major update to its local capabilities game with Radius Targeting, allowing advertisers to target Snap Ads and Filters around a specific location. This feature is coming soon to the UK. Lastly, Lego announced a brick sorting vacuum and Netflix acquired Seth Rogen in these April Fool’s stunts.
