DMEXCO, Europe’s leading digital marketing & tech event, opened its virtual doors for the second year running on 7th and 8th September to share global thought-leadership by way of 100+ hours of keynotes, masterclasses, panels and more across four virtual stages. The annual event used to be a mecca of exhibitors, demos and keynotes, all flocking to Koelnmesse in Cologne, however due to the continued disruption of the pandemic, [email protected] streamed live yet again to attendees across the globe.
Unsurprisingly, due to the current working, economic and business landscapes we have been navigating for the last eighteen months, the core topics that arose at DMEXCO were around commerce (specifically the rise in social, mobile and sustainable commerce), the continued conversation around 1st party data, and how to lead and transform businesses today and in the future.
However, whilst DMEXCO was rich in content, it failed to surprise or open up new perspectives. Why was that the case this year? Never before has our thirst for future foresight been so great, and never before have we dealt so intensively with a focus on the “new future” and “new normal” as we have in recent months. But whilst DMEXCO found it difficult to surprise us, it focused on the right topics, ones that should be at the top of the business agenda for marketers today.
For us at OMD, understanding consumer needs so we can deliver valued and valuable experiences for consumers and brands, is at the heart of our business.
We tuned in with interest to hear from speakers on the topics of commerce and data, and we have shared in this Debrief our point-of-view and OMD solutions which are driving better business growth for our clients in these areas.
We are always interested in hearing how business leaders are continuing to transform their companies during this period of remote working and moving into new business operating models. We are all aware that putting our people first is a number one business priority, especially during a time where some have felt isolated whilst others have thrived, and hearing from leaders on how they are approaching ways of working in Q4 and beyond, was our third takeaway from this year’s event.
We look forward to hopefully returning to Cologne in 2022 and visiting DMEXCO to experience the sights, sounds and demos that fill Koelnmesse once again.
